We recently helped Aysegul Askan with an urgent need to get hold of Scientific Word to meet her PhD thesis deadline. She wrote to us:

Thanks Christopher,
Everything worked out very well. I already bought my permanent license!
Thanks for the wonderful customer service.
Cheers,
Aysegul
Glad we were able to help you get sorted, Aysegul. We sent our free 30-day demo CD to John Bore. He wrote:

Christopher,Thank you for giving me a chance to use your product. I was amazed to see that it performed complex mathematical tasks that I did not even thought it would. Even though my work schedule did not allow me to have enough time to fully utilise it, I was completely satisfied with the product. I am sure I will contact you in near future to have the complete set of your products.Once again, thank you!John.
John gladly gave us permission to put his Email on our web site - thanks John. And Dr Riaz Ahmad of 7city Learning, London Emailed us after his company bought a copy for him:

I recently acquired Scientific Word. This software is the ultimate in maths word processing, and I would not consider anything other than the range of software developed by Mackichan. The superior service provided by Dr Christopher Mabb was super efficient (hypersonic in speed!) and very professional. I received the software together with 2 manuals (which are like gold dust) the next morning. Many thanks.
Our thanks too, to Dr Ahmad for his comments (and for permission to quote him).
In our Emailing of 10th. September 2003 to our customer base we wrote:
May we also use this opportunity to seek some feedback, in order that we can serve our UK customers better. We want to know the 3 best things, and the 3 worst things about our company. Please respond by Email within the next 30 days (by Friday 10th. October). There will be free copies of Scientific WorkPlace, Scientific Word and Scientific Notebook for the three most helpful contributions...
A copy of Scientific WorkPlace went to Gerry Roberts of Breaston, Derbyshire, who replied:
From: Gerry RobertsSent: Wednesday, October 08, 2003 11:36 PMSubject: 3 best things and 3 worst things about Scientific Word Ltd.I am a fairly new user to Scientific Notebook, having purchased it after buying a book, by Jonathan Lewin, at Open University Summer School in Nottingham. The book is ‘An Interactive Introduction To Mathematical Analysis’ and contained a CD with a limited 30 day use of the software. Apparently, it then resorts to the Viewer program. The problem was, I was hooked on obtaining the full version for continual use in my Maths OU studies. There I discovered the first best thing about Scientific Word Limited. I made contact with Christopher Mabb, about an educational purchase of the software. I was politely informed that if I were to wait a few weeks the newer version (5) would be available. Now I consider that downright considerate, as I could easily have been sold the current ‘nearly out of date’ version. So good point number 1, I was considered a customer worth looking after BEFORE becoming a customer.
When I received the package, I have to put forward best thing number 2. I received an incredible piece of documentation in the form of 2 manuals, an easy Getting Started guide, and a more comprehensive Doing Mathematics with the Software guide. Modern software is easily packaged with CD manuals which are cumbersome to read on screen, when you want the full use of the screen for the software, and use a lot of paper, printer consumables and lost time if you want your own hard copy. I also found the complete installation routine as a demonstration of the way in which the authors of the software had dedicated total professionalism and pride in their product that I was yet to use. Thank you MacKichan Software for your extremely high standards of documentation and ease of installation. (I should add here that in my job as a computer consultant for over thirty years, I have obviously come across many different software systems, and this software is easily in the top 3 of professional quality – and MacKichan didn’t seem to care whether you are a full multi-user business user or a single student).
My third best thing about Scientific Word Limited is that I truly believe I am important to them as a customer. I feel part of their community, and I haven’t started living there yet. My personality has always been to seek perfection in all things that I do, and I consider myself lucky in having come into contact with a company that has a high a standard of perfection that I continually seek. I am kept up to date, I am in contact with the company for updates, news items, feed back, problem solving and I did not do anything apart from register my software.
I will now try to describe the 3 worst things about Scientific Word Limited. Firstly, they give me nothing to complain about. Secondly, their product is so good and easy to use with zillions of help embedded in the system, that I don’t think I will ever need their problem feedback so I shall not be talking to them too much, and thirdly, I am so absorbed in the product and documentation that I spend less time with my wife – and she sees that as a ‘worst thing’ about the company!.
Kind regards
Gerry Roberts
We're grateful to Gerry for permission to use his Email on our web site - thanks Gerry!
