Floating Licences and Campus-wide Site Licences

Departments - multiple-user Floating Licences

Companies or Academic departments looking to make the Scientific Word/WorkPlace/Notebook programs available to their personnel are invited to consider what combination of Fixed or Floating Licences will best provide for everyone's needs. (Please review the distinction between Fixed and Floating ).

Floating Licences: although they cost 1.6 times the price of Fixed Licences, they can be used by anyone in the department connected to the server, subject only to the simultaneous-use limit of the number of licences bought. Thus it may be possible to make Scientific Word available to 40 people in a department by buying, say, 5 Floating Licences. The Scientific Word (Educational) Floating price of £520.20 reduces to £468.18 for 5, totalling £2340.90 (all prices plus Carriage and VAT). For Scientific WorkPlace, these figures would be £690.20, reducing to £621.18 for 5, totalling £3105.90. Do please work through the details on the Licence Calculator to get an idea of how to meet your department's needs.

In addition, we are also able to sell Licences (Fixed or Floating) to departments at Student discount, if you can certify that such systems will be used exclusively by students. For example, you could buy 10 Floating Licences for Scientific Word (7 for students only, 3 for anyone) for £2850.90, or for Scientific WorkPlace for £3772.30. If the professional LaTeX typesetting is not required, then Scientific Notebook offers a less expensive alternative, at only £817.70 for the above configuration.

The 3 variables of:

1. Scientific Word/WorkPlace/Notebook
2. Fixed or Floating Licences, and
3. Commercial pricing, Educational discount (for academic staff) or Student discount (students only)

can be combined in multiple possibilities to meet your requirements. The optional British English dictionary can be bought at £25 per system, or 5% of the total Licence price, whichever is higher. Please note:

• Future upgrades are expected to cost 35% for each major upgrade
• Or, you can join the Annual Maintenance Scheme by paying 20% a year (only 10% for the first year) - paid in advance - and receiving all upgrades free of charge as soon as they are released.

The above options are intended to be equivalent.

Global campus-wide Site Licences

Global campus-wide Site Licences are available with a pricing structure now dependent on the number of students registered at the University. For example, the Educational price for a University with 9-10,000 students would be £11k for a Scientific Word campus-wide Licence, or £16k for a Scientific WorkPlace campus-wide Licence. However, a University with 20,000 students would pay approximately £22k and £30k for SW and SWP respectively, while a University of only 5,000 students would pay £7k and £9k.

The Licence is supplied as a Floating Licence for the University's server(s), allowing unlimited concurrent usage for members of the University connected to the server. We will also provide annually a 1-year Serial Number for current staff members to use on their home machines.

The Annual Maintenance Scheme is mandatory for a Global campus-wide Licence, paying 20% a year (only 10% for the first year) - paid in advance - and receiving all upgrades free of charge as soon as they are released.
